Our Process

Creating Enchanting Holiday Lighting Displays

At Silver Bells, the journey to crafting breathtaking holiday lighting displays begins with a meticulous process that ensures every detail is thoughtfully considered. Our goal is to transform your space into a mesmerizing winter wonderland that radiates festive spirit and captivates all who behold it.

  • 1. Discovery and Design Consultation

We begin by getting to know you and your space. Our free design consultation involves a thorough discussion of your vision, preferences, and any unique features of your property. We collaborate closely to understand your desired ambiance and specific holiday lighting goals.

  • 2. Custom Design Proposal

Based on our conversation, we create a custom design proposal tailored to your space and preferences. This proposal outlines the proposed lighting layout, color schemes, decorative elements, and placement of lights to bring your vision to life.

  • 3. Material Preparations

Once the design is approved and deposit is paid, we carefully begin preparing and building the high-quality lighting materials, decorations, and accessories in our warehouse. We assemble your materials well in advance of your installation date to ensure that everything is ready and accounted for. This also prepares us to accommodate requests for earlier install dates if our installation team gets ahead of schedule.

  • 4. Installation Expertise

Our skilled installation team brings the design to reality. Safety is paramount in our process. We meticulously secure all lighting fixtures and decorations to ensure they withstand various weather conditions. We also conduct thorough quality checks to ensure that each light is shining brightly and that every detail is impeccable. We make any necessary adjustments to guarantee that the entire display is visually stunning and flawlessly operational.

  • 5. Ongoing Maintenance and Support

Ongoing Maintenance and Support: Our commitment doesn't end with installation. We offer free ongoing maintenance to ensure that your holiday lighting remains dazzling throughout the season. Should any issues arise, our responsive team is ready to address them promptly, so your display continues to shine brightly.

  • 6. Removal & Storage

Removal & Storage: At the end of the holiday season, Silver Bells ensures a seamless transition from the festive wonderland back to your property's regular aesthetic. Our team expertly removes all lighting fixtures, decorations, and accessories, taking great care to avoid any damage to your property. These materials are then safely stored in our warehouse. When the next holiday season approaches, we'll reach out to begin the process to re-install your enchanting display, ready to bring joy and radiance once again.

At Silver Bells, our holiday lighting process is more than a series of steps; it’s a journey of collaboration, creativity, and craftsmanship. From envisioning the design to executing the installation, every stage is guided by our passion for creating enchanting holiday experiences that delight, inspire, and spread festive cheer. Discover the magic of our holiday lighting process and let us turn your vision into a radiant reality that warms hearts and ignites the spirit of the season.

FAQ's

We provide the lights and materials!

We offer an all-inclusive service that includes all the commercial-grade materials required as well as a custom lighting design, skillful installation, prompt ongoing maintenance, efficient removal, and storage at our facility. Not only will we light your property with the highest quality materials and techniques for best aesthetics, but we also guarantee our work and handle everything from start to finish so you can enjoy the holidays without the hassle of untangling lights, hunting for matching replacements, fussing with ladders, or freezing your tush off while attempting the inevitable mid-season repairs when something stops working or gets pulled down by snow or wind…all while remaining safely on the ground.

All of them! Not only do we have a wide range of options for Christmas, but we have a range of
options for every occasion including Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Independence Day, Halloween, Diwali, and more! It’s not uncommon for us to add additional décor as requested; a free consultation with one of our designers is the best way to get started!

  1. Free color and design changes from year to year for total flexibility.
  2. No surprise costs for maintenance, even if it requires us to make an extra trip out to your property.
  3. Never have to worry about spending money on lights that fail prematurely – if that happens, it’s our problem not yours. Manufacturer warranties for holiday lights are typically very short (even for the good stuff!). There are huge  ariations in quality and lifespan even for products labeled as “commercial grade” or “professional”. A company selling you lights may not be as invested in selling the very best if something merely passable has more margin for them.
  4. No cost to you when lights/clips/wiring/timers/etc. are eventually due for total replacement.
  5. Zero risk of materials not being removed at the end of the season or being stored improperly.
  6. Excellent customer service – our business model relies on repeat business because we don’t make a big chunk of money selling you lights the first year. You can bet we’ll be doing all we can to earn a customer for life by creating an exceptional experience for you.
  7. The highest quality materials. Not only is it the right way to do things as a professional, but our business model truly demands it.
  8. Ease, convenience, and predictability.

Ah, this question warms our hearts! The earlier the better for the most advantageous pricing, scheduling timeframes, and access to custom décor (inventory is limited for some items). We tend to start getting more consistently busy with quote requests around mid-July with a serious ramping up by mid-September that winds down mid-December. Projects that are exceptionally large, highly customized, or require special equipment may require earlier planning.

Additionally, our designs are customized to you – this makes them fun and flexible; sometimes this may require a revision. This is particularly common if multiple decision-maker are involved (as is common with HOAs or commercial properties) or if goals/budgets are being adapted through the process. We want to ensure ample time for these circumstances.

Why yes, we do! We prefer LED lights because they run on approximately 80-90% less energy than incandescent lights, are more durable, and they last much longer. The specific bulbs we use are C9 LED with SMD technology – they are the latest and greatest in LED technology. They have a proven track record, use even less power than the older style LED bulbs, are brighter, and look fabulous from all angles.

Helpful tip: In the Treasure Valley, it is very difficult to get an apples-to-apples comparison between different companies – be cautious and ask good questions. Many companies in the Boise area are using C7 LED bulbs which are much smaller and dimmer than C9 LED bulbs OR they are using an older style or lower quality C9 LED bulb. Even the 5 diode LED bulbs which were top-of-the-line a few years ago do not stack up against bulbs with SMD technology like the ones we use. Make sure you know what you’re getting!

We will provide you with a customized design and quote based on your lighting objectives. We have a very formulaic approach to our pricing which accounts for a variety of factors such as proper installation method, required materials, and difficulty. This enables us to give you the best
price possible and to tailor the design to your needs – both style and budget.

As part of our commitment to excellence, we use only top-of-the-line, professional grade materials which we will custom fit to your home or business. Not only does this mean longer-lasting lights…but it also means you are getting an incredible value and beautiful display with all the lights exactly where they should be. We do not use the cheap, plug-and-go light strands that many of our competitors use. We assemble all the materials from scratch and custom cut them on site during your installation for the perfect fit.

Absolutely! And at no additional cost.

You bet! At the end of the season, we will take down the holiday lights and décor and will carefully store them until next season. Don’t worry about forfeiting precious storage space in your garage or attic!

We do! Our warm white C9s are designed to mimic the warm glow of the clear incandescent bulbs and give you the best of both worlds – classic aesthetics with energy-saving technology, superior lifespan, and enhanced durability.

Pro tip: Cheap imitations often carry a green undertone or are unnaturally yellow or orange. Quality matters here!

Warm white mimics the golden glow of the classic, clear incandescent bulbs. This range of white light color is often referred to in the big box stores as “soft white” and typically falls within the range of 2700-3000 kelvins.

Pure white can be described as more of a true or neutral white – similar the color of a piece of standard printer paper. Big box stores often call this tone of white “bright white” and its generally around 4000 kelvins.

Pro tip: Weird color tones can be one indicator of poor-quality bulbs. Low quality warm white bulbs often have a green undertone or are unnaturally yellow or orange; low quality pure white bulbs often have a bluish undertone and are the reason many people didn’t like LED lighting when it was first developed (luckily things have come a long way since then!).

Nope – you do your thing; we’ve got this covered! If the unique needs of your project would require otherwise, we’ll be sure to coordinate with you, but this is very rarely needed. Our goal is to make every step of the process as easy and convenient for you as possible.

We can’t necessarily speak to why that happened with your specific contractor, BUT we can tell you that you’re not alone and this is a very common issue holiday lighting customers face with other companies. Which is a HUGE bummer when hiring for a repeat service and hoping to not have to “shop” every year…or worse…being stuck with materials no reputable company will hang for you. Many companies offering holiday lighting in the Treasure Valley are doing it as a side hustle or an add-on service without necessarily understanding the ongoing costs required. As a result, they often underprice their services and then struggle to keep up or determine it’s not worth the hassle. Similarly, there are organizations aggressively trying to convince every window cleaner, painter, and landscaper across the country to add holiday lighting services to their company; they often get duped into believing that it is an easy service to add…only to learn later that it is much more difficult and costly than they anticipated. With Silver Bells, not only will you receive the highest quality design and service, but a solid team of lighting professionals with a long history and proven track record of excellence. We understand how to run a successful and efficient holiday lighting program – just like you deserve! You can bet we aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

  1. Size and Visibility: C9 lights are larger than C7 lights, making them more visible from a distance. This increased size can create a more dramatic and eye-catching display, especially for outdoor decorations or larger trees.
  2. Scale and Proportion: From a design and aesthetic standpoint, the size of the lights should be proportionate to the size of the substrate. When lighting homes or other large structures, C9s offer the appropriate scale for the best aesthetics.
  3. Brightness: Due to their larger size, C9 lights typically produce brighter illumination compared to C7 lights. This brightness can help your decorations stand out even in well-lit areas or from a distance.
  4. Aesthetic Appeal: The larger size of C9 bulbs gives them a classic and bold appearance, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal of your holiday display. They can create a more impactful visual effect, especially when used in larger quantities. For those seeking a very elegant, traditional aesthetic, C9s are the clear choice.

Oh my, where to begin?! With Silver Bells, you can rest easy knowing you’ve hired top professionals who will do beautiful work and make your life easier throughout every step of the process. We are lighting professionals – not a landscaping, pest control, painting, or window cleaning company just looking to keep employees busy during a slow season. This isn’t a hobby or side gig. This is our passion and area of expertise, and it shows. We aim to please and our work is 100% guaranteed! We use only top-of-the-line products to make sure your lighting looks stunning. You’ll never question what your final bill will be. We are upfront with all costs, and you’ll never get a surprise charge. We promise you’ll love what we do – Give us a shot, you won’t be disappointed!

We offer a wide range of options. Our standard C9s for Christmas lights include warm white, pure white, red, green, and blue; For other holidays we have additional options. For trees, bushes, columns, etc. we offer the same C9 colors (color matched!) as well as some amazing specialty strands that combine multiple color schemes and add extra sparkle to your holiday display. For our full range of options as well as aesthetic recommendations for your project, it’s best to meet with one of our designers for a free consultation. We’ll help get the creative juices flowing, show examples from past projects, and guide you toward a final design you’ll love!

With our all-inclusive holiday lighting, mid-season maintenance is no additional cost to you. So, if a bulb burns out, snow pulls down some lights, a tree stops lighting up, etc., just let us know and we will be out to get it taken care of promptly.

This will require you to do your homework on the options you’re considering. Aside from the risks of paying for poor-quality materials or a subpar customer service, here are some scarier things you should be aware of when you don’t use the right professional:

  1. Fire risk
  2. Electrocution risk
  3. Fall risk – both from roofs and ladders
  4. Property damage – general liability insurance may not be in place or may lack sufficient coverage
  5. Excessive liability – if someone without proper worker’s compensation coverage gets hurt on your property, you may be liable
